Martinez Skate Park
2009
Martinez
Park was funded through a program designed to renovate city parks with
ADA access and general upgrades. In this situation, the kids in
District 5 requested a skatepark over the proposed playground. After a
couple of public input meetings it was determined that a skatepark was
to be built over the old tennis courts. Many of the skateparks in San
Antonio are modular ramps, but in this situation the skaters requested
a concrete skatepark featuring a mini bowl, plenty of ledges and an
eight stair handrail.
A
local landscape architecture firm TBG was able to take these ideas and
plug them into a functioning and flowing skatepark. In February 2009, a
local general contractor TCL broke ground on the 9000 sqft. facility.
As of 7/11/09 the facility is now open to the public from 5am to 11pm
everyday. We are very happy with the outcome and the park is a lot of
fun to ride.
Most
importantly, this facility was named after a fallen police officer. We
met with the Martinez family and they were very supportive of this
skatepark. Please respect the facility and keep it clean. For
